Connecting rooms share an internal door between the two rooms, letting you move between them without stepping into the hallway — ideal for families wanting separate sleeping space while staying easily accessible to each other. Adjoining (or adjacent) rooms are simply next to each other with no internal connecting door, requiring you to use the hallway to move between them.
Neither type is usually guaranteed just by booking two rooms online — most hotels treat connecting rooms as a special request that's confirmed based on availability, not something automatically assigned by the booking system. Calling the hotel directly after booking, or requesting it clearly in the reservation notes, significantly improves your odds.
Connecting rooms are also limited in supply at most properties — usually a specific set of rooms on certain floors — so booking early and requesting connecting rooms as soon as your dates are confirmed gives you a much better chance than a last-minute request.
