Most of us on the founding team came from customer-facing jobs in the travel industry before this — airline call centers, hotel front desks, a couple of us from independent travel agencies that got squeezed out once big booking sites took over search traffic. What we kept noticing from that side of the counter was the same complaint over and over: people didn't trust the price they were shown until they'd called someone to confirm it wasn't going to change at checkout.
That's a strange thing to build an entire industry around — a booking flow that quietly trains customers not to trust the number on the screen. So the original idea for TheTravelValley wasn't really a technology idea at all. It was closer to a service philosophy: show the real price up front, and keep a phone line open for anyone who wants a person to double-check it before they commit. Everything else — the fare comparison engine, the partner network, the site itself — got built around that starting point, not the other way around.
