Cheap Flights to Singapore and Bangkok from the US

Skyscanner's 2026 report lists Singapore among the biggest fare drops for American travelers, down about 25 percent, and notes new low-cost routes to Bangkok. Here is how to make the most of it.

Two Asian hubs getting cheaper to reach

In its 2026 Travel Trends report for American travelers, Skyscanner lists Singapore among the destinations where economy return fares have fallen the most, down roughly 25 percent compared with the previous year. The same report quotes its Americas director pointing to new low-cost carriers launching routes for late 2025 and summer 2026 to places including Bangkok, Italy, Paris, Reykjavik and Scotland.

For travelers who have written off Southeast Asia as too far or too expensive, that is a prompt to price it again. Singapore and Bangkok make a natural pair: one is spotless, efficient and a little eye-watering for hotels, the other is chaotic, cheap and endlessly interesting, and the flight between them is only two and a half hours.

Singapore: nonstops and flight times

Singapore Airlines operates some of the world's longest flights, including nonstops from the New York area and from the West Coast. Flying time is roughly eighteen to nineteen hours from New York and about seventeen from Los Angeles and San Francisco, with return legs a little shorter.

If a nonstop at a fair price is not available, one-stop itineraries via Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong or the Gulf can be far cheaper and break the journey into two shorter halves. Our pages on Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and EVA Air explain how these routings work, and the Singapore Changi guide shows what to expect on arrival.

Bangkok: fewer nonstops, many good connections

Nonstop flights between the US and Bangkok are limited, and most travelers connect once, usually in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong or Singapore. That is no hardship, because the connecting airports are some of the best in the world, but you need to check layover times.

A common pattern is to fly into Singapore on a nonstop and take a low-cost flight to Bangkok, or to fly home from Bangkok through Taipei or Tokyo. Total flying time from the East Coast is roughly twenty to twenty-four hours with a connection, so build in a calm first day. Our Bangkok destination guide covers where to stay and how to handle the first evening.

The new low-cost routes: what to watch for

New low-cost long-haul routes can undercut the major airlines by a wide margin, but they usually strip the fare to the bone. Bags, meals, seat selection and sometimes even carry-on bags cost extra, and schedules may run only a few times a week.

Add up the full cost for the way you actually travel before deciding. A full-service fare with a bag, meals and a more flexible change policy can come out similar or cheaper once you add extras. Our guide to budget airlines versus legacy carriers shows where the gap really lies.

The best time to go

Singapore sits on the equator and is hot and humid all year, with rain showers possible in any month and a wetter period from November to January. Thailand's cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable and the busiest, March to May is very hot, and June to October is the rainy season.

If you want both, aim for November to February, when Bangkok is at its best and Phuket and the Andaman coast are dry. Shoulder months of October and March can bring lower fares, and the rainy season brings bargains and greener scenery with the risk of showers.

When to book

For the cool season, book four to six months ahead, and earlier for the Christmas and New Year weeks. For the rainy months, two to four months ahead is usually enough, and you may find sales.

Set a price alert once your dates are firm. Our guides to tracking fare drops and how far in advance to book international flights explain how. If a nonstop fare drops well below its usual level, do not wait.

Entry rules, arrival cards and laws

US citizens can generally visit Singapore for up to 90 days without a visa, but must complete the SG Arrival Card online within a few days before arrival. Thailand also allows visa-free entry for US citizens for a limited period, and requires a Thailand Digital Arrival Card to be completed online before arrival.

Rules on both change, so check official government sites shortly before you book. Singapore has strict laws on vaping, drugs and littering, with heavy penalties, so read the guidance for visitors. Keep your passport valid for at least six months from arrival.

A two-week route: Singapore, Bangkok and the beach

Spend three nights in Singapore for Marina Bay, the Gardens, hawker centers and Chinatown, four in Bangkok for temples, markets and canal trips, then four on a Thai island or in Krabi or Phuket, and finish with a night in Bangkok before flying home.

Low-cost flights link Singapore, Bangkok and Thailand's beach airports for very little, so the whole circuit needs only two or three short hops. Our Singapore destination guide helps plan the first stop.

Eating well in Singapore for a few dollars

Singapore's hawker centers are food courts where dozens of stalls sell specialties that are often among the best in the city. Chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, satay and chili crab variants cost a few dollars a plate, and some stalls have earned international recognition for their cooking.

Go at off-peak times to avoid long lines, grab a table first by placing a tissue packet on it, as locals do, and pay at each stall. Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat, Old Airport Road and Tiong Bahru are well-known centers, and the quality at hidden neighborhood ones is excellent.

Singapore as a stopover

Singapore's airport is a destination in itself, and the city makes a perfect two- or three-night break on the way to Bali, Australia or elsewhere in Asia. Singapore Airlines and the airport run visitor programs that include discounted hotels and attractions.

A stopover costs little in airfare when booked as part of a multi-city ticket. Our guide to the stopover strategy explains how, and the article on multi-city versus round-trip tickets shows how to compare.

What is worth doing in Singapore, and what to skip

Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Bay waterfront, Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam and the Botanic Gardens are all worth a visit, and most are free or cheap. The Night Safari and the zoo suit families, and Sentosa has beaches and theme parks.

Some attractions are overpriced for what they offer, so choose the ones that fit your interests and leave the rest. Many people find two or three days enough for the city, and the efficient metro makes it easy to move between districts.

What a day costs in each city

Singapore is expensive for hotels and alcohol, but food can be cheap if you eat at hawker centers, where excellent dishes cost a few dollars. Public transport is cheap and efficient, and attractions vary widely in price.

Bangkok is far cheaper. A comfortable hotel, street food, river boats and metro rides cost a fraction of Singapore's prices. Beach destinations in Thailand range from budget bungalows to luxury resorts, and the cost of living there depends on the island and season.

Bangkok neighborhoods and where to stay

Choose a base near the Sky Train or the metro and Bangkok becomes manageable. Sukhumvit suits first-time visitors with restaurants and nightlife, Silom and Sathorn are central and business-friendly, and the Old City around Rattanakosin is close to temples but further from trains.

Riverside hotels offer a calmer retreat, with boat shuttles to temples and markets. Budget stays in Banglamphu and Phra Arthit put you close to backpacker streets, and the Ari and Thonglor districts offer a more local feel with good cafes.

Fares, bags and domestic hops

Long-haul fares on full-service airlines generally include checked bags, but cheaper fares or add-on low-cost flights may not. Regional budget airlines charge for bags and have strict weight limits, so plan your luggage accordingly.

Our comparison of basic and standard economy fares and the guide to carry-on size rules help you pack within the limits of every leg of your trip.

The Thai islands: Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui

Phuket has the biggest choice of beaches, hotels and nightlife and the best flight links. Krabi is more scenic, with limestone cliffs and day trips to the Phi Phi islands. Koh Samui and its neighbors lie in the Gulf of Thailand, with a different weather pattern from the Andaman coast.

From November to April the Andaman side, including Phuket and Krabi, is at its best, while Koh Samui is often good from January to August. Pick the coast to suit your dates, and book ferries and domestic flights ahead for busy weeks.

Heat, health and staying comfortable

Heat and humidity are the main challenges. Plan outdoor sightseeing for mornings and evenings, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and take air-conditioned breaks. Sunscreen and a hat are essential.

Check the CDC's guidance for both countries a month or two before departure, since recommendations vary. Use insect repellent in the evenings, drink bottled or filtered water in Thailand, and take out travel insurance with medical cover.

Temples, dress codes and etiquette

Thailand's temples require modest dress: cover your shoulders and knees, and remove shoes before entering any prayer hall. The Grand Palace has strict rules, and officials may turn away anyone who is underdressed.

Do not point your feet at a Buddha image or touch a monk if you are a woman. Respect for the royal family is taken very seriously, and criticism is illegal. A smile and a polite greeting go a long way.

Jet lag and the time difference

Singapore is thirteen hours ahead of US Eastern time in winter and twelve in summer, and Bangkok is twelve and eleven. Both are fifteen to sixteen hours ahead of the West Coast. Jet lag is heavy, particularly flying out.

Plan an easy first day, step outside for daylight and avoid big commitments for the first morning. Our guide to long-haul flight comfort and jet lag offers practical tips. A stopover in Singapore can break the journey and ease the adjustment.

Money, cards and scams

Singapore uses the Singapore dollar and Thailand the baht. Cards are widely accepted in Singapore and in Thai cities and resorts, but carry cash for markets and small shops in Thailand. Choose to pay in local currency when using a card.

Bangkok has a few well-known tourist scams: tuk-tuk drivers offering cheap tours that end at shops, people telling you a temple is closed, and taxis that refuse to use the meter. Use ride-hailing apps or insist on the meter, and be polite but firm.

Is the rainy season really a problem?

Thailand's rainy season brings afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain, and the countryside is green and quiet. Prices fall, and many visitors enjoy it. Some islands see rougher seas, ferry cancellations and closed beaches, particularly from September to October on the Andaman coast.

If you travel in the wet months, pick a flexible itinerary, carry a light rain jacket and consider the Gulf islands, where weather can be better. Bangkok flooding is usually localized and short-lived.

Solo travelers, couples and families

Both cities are easy for solo travelers, with a strong hostel scene and safe, walkable areas. Couples can pair Singapore's rooftop bars with Thailand's beaches, and families enjoy Singapore's zoo, Sentosa and Gardens by the Bay.

Our solo travel service, honeymoon travel service and family vacations service can help with the arrangements around the flights.

Mistakes first-time visitors make

The most common is underestimating the heat and planning too much outdoors in the middle of the day. Another is booking a tight connection on separate tickets between a long-haul flight and a low-cost regional one, which leaves no protection if the first flight is late.

Other slips: forgetting the arrival cards, wearing shorts and sleeveless tops into temples, and booking a hotel far from a metro or sky train station in Bangkok, which turns every trip into a traffic jam.
